My name is Deb Davies. I am an assistant professor for
nursing and a nursing educator at Presentation College. I
have been at the college for eighteen years although it
seems like just yesterday. My main areas of interest and
expertise are maternal child health, professional nursing
practice, research, and nursing theories. I am also the
director of the LPN and RN to BSN completion program.
I will soon be graduating with my PhD in education from
Capella University. My research has been about LPNs and RNs
in completion programs. It examines how instructors can
facilitate a change in their meaning perspectives or way of
thinking. My degree is in instructional design for online
learning. I teach several online classes and absolutely love
it.
I did my MS work at the University of Minnesota where I
focused on maternal child nursing and also victims of
interpersonal violence. I also have a bachelor’s degree from
NSU where my main focus was psychology. I previously
attended and graduated from Presentation College.
I have been in nursing for a very long time; I just received
my 35 year pin from my local hospital where I still do
maternal child health nursing on a limited basis. There is
nothing more exciting than seeing a baby born. I am also a
Virtual ATI instructor where I prepare graduate nursing
students for taking the NCLEX RN exam. I have also
previously taught other NCLEX review courses.
I am a member of Rho Xi Chapter 420 of Sigma Theta Tau
International at Presentation College. We have been a SSTI
chapter since 2000 and I have held many offices within the
chapter. I enjoy being part of a community of nursing
scholars within the college and the community. I am also a
member of the Board of Directors of the Senior Citizen
Center in Aberdeen. I have tried to be active in activities
involving seniors within my community.
I live in a small town outside of Aberdeen. I live at the
lake year round and love the peace and serenity of rural
living. I am also the grandmother of five of the greatest
grandkids. Being a grandmother is one of those unexpected
pleasures that I never thought I would enjoy.
I also am an animal lover. I have three pooches that keep me
busy; two cocker spaniels and cockepoo. I actually rescued
two of them and still volunteer to foster pets as needed. I
love drawing and painting but have had to put it aside while
I completed my PhD; I plan on doing more of that in the near
future.
